Is there an avid gambler in your family? Are you related to a person who loves the casino lifestyle above all else? Did you marry the type of person who'd rather play poker than perform badly-needed charity work? Are you acquainted with an individual who feels that life is not worth living without a stack of chips in his or her pocket at all times? Or, could it be possible that you yourself qualify as a gambling fanatic of the highest caliber?
If you think I'm conducting some kind of witch hunt here, taking a deep breath and think again. Because Floyd Manning has never made any bones about the fact that he considers games of chance to be the most noble recreation to which a human being could ever devote his or her life. In fact, the game of poker represents to me the finest of all human achievements, easily surpassing the wheel, the combustion engine, the Internet and all the seven wonders of the prehistoric world.
If you’re like me or simply know someone like me, you may find yourself in a bit of a quandary when birthdays or other major holidays come around. After all, what can you buy a person who only feels truly alive when sitting inside a casino? Let me give you a few suggestions. I will go so far as say that I own several of these items myself, though I would rather not delineate which ones are currently in my possession. Let me just say that each recommendation comes from the heart.
No poker fan can feel complete without his or her own set of custom chips. As you know, chips come in a wide range of price and quality. Hell, you probably own some crappy plastic chips that a baby could break without much effort. After all, most folks have owned that kind of garbage at some point. Get rid of them, now! For the true poker fan, a deluxe set of professional-grade chips (which can be monogrammed for an extra fee) makes an excellent gift.
If, however, you have a craps lover in the family, I would strongly suggest a set of personalized dice. There’s a tremendous amount of customization which can go into a set of dice, just understand that your loved one will not be able to walk into a real casino and use these babies. Nonetheless, a personal pair makes a terrific keepsake and can be used in casual games.
Finally, a deluxe deck of cards can make a really solid gift. I’m not talking about the standard cheap Bicycle brand that you are apt to find in any airport duty-free shop for $1.99. Certainly, these cards are fine for the purpose which they are intended to serve. But for a real high-end experience, lay out some jack for a monogrammed set of two decks of quality cards, coming in its own fancy wooden box. That will make any poker player happy to stay home at night
