Everyone Wants Something For Free
Everyone wants something for nada!
I hate to sound like an old fart, but sometimes Floyd Manning feels the need to make some sweeping observations about the society in which we are currently living. I wish I could be more optimistic about where the United States is heading, but when I look at the youth of today I cannot help but think that disaster is imminent. I hope to be proven wrong in this gloomy outlook, and it certainly is true that many of my predictions in the past have been ridiculously off-target, so perhaps there is hope for us yet. Nonetheless, one particular aspect of our national character seems to have cropped up over the past ten or twenty years that must be eradicated if we are to survive as a society.
What I am talking about is a general sense of entitlement that runs so deep. In short, everybody seems to want something for free. More than that, they feel they are entitled to get something for free. Where the heck did this misguided philosophy come from? Do you think the pilgrims felt they were entitled to diddly-squat when they landed on Plymouth Rock? Or how about the brave men and women who tamed the American West? Do you suppose they felt a cushy lifestyle was their birthright? And, while were on the subject, how about old Benny Binion? When he decided to launch the World Series of Poker in 1970, you think he felt like he deserved to be successful? Hell no, Benny knew the only way to become a success was the old-fashioned way: to steal it. And, failing that, to earn it.
Anyway, for all those in this nation who feel they are entitled to something for free, there is some pretty good news. Especially for those individuals who are fans of the game of poker. The Internet, which is loaded with great places to play poker and other favorite gambling pastimes, offers quite a few free bonuses and opportunities for players of every skill level. In general, these are categorized under two general banners: the sign-up bonus and the loyalty bonus. Allow me to explain both in a bit of detail.
A sign-up bonus is something an online casino offers in order to attract new players to the site. Therefore, you might find yourself given five hundred dollars or more of free credits. Plus, if you refer a friend of the site, you could easily receive another big free chunk of virtual gambling chips. Even the most spoiled snot-nose out there has to admit this is a pretty good deal.
A loyalty bonus operates in a similar fashion, but is targeted towards people who are already members of gambling Web site and are looking to renew their membership. Often times, a loyalty bonus will come in the form of a free buy-in to a satellite tournament. This can be a tremendous advantage if you wish to dominate a satellite without having to cough up the requisite fee.
It seems pretty clear that the Internet is a boon for our needy society. And, rather than sit around criticizing other people, I think I’m going to log onto my favor poker Web site and take advantage of some free stuff myself. If you can beat 'em, join 'em.
