As you have probably learned from reading my work over the years, Floyd Manning likes to devote some time every now and then to making a few personal confessions. There is not even a trace of narcissism driving this impulse, rather a desire to share myself with my vast and devoted readership. All too often in the world of professional poker writing, the “experts” do everything possibly to create an invisible barrier separating them from the common poker player on the street. This is all about protecting weak egos and creating a false impression of invulnerability. Most intelligent readers can see through this kind of infantile ruse, so it is inherently pointless.

It has been a little while since I have unburdened myself of a filthy little secret, so I figure now is probably a good time to add another to my list of confessions. Here goes: until recently, I was an avid reader of such trashy weekly magazines like US and People Weekly. There, I said it.

Naturally, most of you would never suspect that a man with Floyd Manning's intellect would waste his time with such celebrity-oriented tripe, but we all have our weaknesses. Fortunately, I have cured myself of this addiction. What was at that helped me to do so? One simple thing. Many of you who have recovered from your own addictions understand it's best to focus on a single aspect and eradicate that rather than being overwhelmed by the totality. The single element that helped free me from my personal problem is the ongoing obsession that many of these magazines have with “what’s hot and what’s not” lists. I swear, there’s nothing lamer than a bunch of editors in some New York high rise trotting out lists of what they think is worthy of the public's attention. Who gave them the right to say what is hot and what is not?

Anyway, allow me to offer a brief “what’s hot list” in my field of expertise: online poker. Only by becoming that which I am loathe can I truly break the chains of dependency. At least that’s what my shrink tells me. So here goes:

1. Satellite tournaments are red-hot in the world of online poker at the moment. With all those cash pots and tournament seats to be won - not mention the very reasonable buy-in fees - look for satellites to only growing popularity.

2. Bonuses, always a staple at most reputable online gaming rooms, have become more rampant and enticing than ever. Both sign-up the loyalty bonuses are easily found all over cyberspace, giving you tons of good reasons to join a number of solid Internet gaming rooms.

3. Software. Huge strides have been made in recent years in terms of providing the best possible cyber-gaming experience, and ultra hot software like Viper and PlayTech continue to raise the bar.

Well, that's really all I can handle for now. I had intended to do a list of five or ten, but after three I think my addiction is fully cured. Now I just after write my psychiatrist a hefty check and it will be behind me.
