What not to wear while Gambling in Vegas

The donts of vegas atire

If you've ever had the great pleasure of visiting Las Vegas and any of the many outstanding casinos which exist in that fine flower of a city, you probably know that how you dress has a rather significant impact on what kind of experience you will have. By this, I do not mean to suggest that it's still like the classic heyday of the 1950s, when Rat Packers like Frank and Dino would hit the floor decked out in tuxes and polished wing tips. Indeed, those jazzy days of old are long gone, which is a matter of great pain and sadness for those of us for who were able to sample the sweet champagne of that bygone era.

Nonetheless, it would be a big mistake to assume that just because standards have relaxed in terms of casino attire, that it does not matter at all what you wear when visiting a gambling house in Las Vegas. How you dress will have a fairly profound effect on what your gambling experience will be like. So, when packing your bags for Sin City, it is a good idea to do a little bit of forward thinking.

You must remember that many popular gambling diversions, especially poker, are games which have a heavy psychological element to them. The game of poker, in fact, could be rather fairly described as a genteel form of mental warfare in which no blood is spilled (hopefully) but wallets and egos are slaughtered with abandon. Therefore, you must ask yourself the following question: "What type of image will I projected, via my wardrobe and my overall appearance, when I sit down at the green felt?"

Obviously, the average poker player will want to put together a wardrobe which will create a feeling of intimidation for his or her opponents. Thus, you may want to toss on a pricey sharkskin shirt and wraparound dark black sunglasses if you're a dude. Or, for the ladies, maybe a skintight dress with a plunging neckline that shows off your assets to devastatingly distracting effect. After all, there are numerous forms of intimidation, and the most important thing is to play to your natural strengths.

However, there is another approach to what kind of clothes to wear when gambling in Vegas that you may want to consider. This is the equivalent of wardrobe bluffing, which entails dressing in such a way that will make you look like the type of person who should not be feared or even respected at the poker table. If you show up in some sort of a slobby attire, giving off the general impression that you’re not someone worth taking seriously, you could end up of fooling a lot of opponents and relieving them of their chip stacks.

Just think it through with care, and decide which approach feels best for you. At the end of the day, no matter what you are wearing, you want to feel comfortable so that you can focus all your attention toward the action on the table.
